What is
Loneliness Awareness Week?

June 10-16, 2024

Loneliness Awareness Week is part of a global effort to raise awareness about the growing issues of social isolation, disconnection, and loneliness in countries around the world.

In Canada, GenWell, Canada’s Human Connection Movement, wants to inspire us all to be more conscious of social isolation, disconnection, and loneliness experienced by older adults.

It is our hope that by raising awareness of the issue and providing ideas, tips and a catalytic week inspiring action, we can work together to build the more connected Canada where all seniors thrive!

HEAR FROM THE EXPERTS

Confident Senior Woman

DR. DINESH KUMAR

With 10,000 adults turning 65 every day, it’s more urgent than ever to understand the issues seniors face that impede their path to health, wellness, and happiness."

Wearing a Black Hat

DR. JUNE MCKOY

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

Social isolation and loneliness are important, yet neglected, social determinants for people of all ages – including older people. The effect of social isolation and loneliness on mortality is comparable to that of other well-established risk factors such as smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.”
